LANES Announces Board Member Dr. Rishi Manchanda

Dr. Manchanda’s innovative, pioneering approach to health equity advances LANES’ mission to deliver whole person care in the greater Los Angeles area.

LOS ANGELES, October 31, 2024 — Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services (LANES), a qualified health information organization (QHIO) serving the greater Los Angeles area, today announced the appointment of Dr. Rishi Manchanda, CEO at HealthBegins to its board. Dr. Manchanda’s mission-driven focus and pioneering work to scale health equity are aligned to LANES’ support of whole person care, including innovative support of ECM providers to advance Medi-Cal delivery.

“LANES is a leader in connecting the real-world strategies and needs of health and social services providers through data exchange, and I’m pleased to join their board to advance their efforts,” said Dr. Manchanda. “I look forward to supporting LANES’ work to bring industry-leading innovation and technology to the populations that need it most.”

Dr. Manchanda is a national expert on the design, implementation and scale of strategies to improve the social and structural drivers of health equity – patients’ social needs, community-level social determinants of health, and structural determinants of health equity. A pioneer in this field, Dr. Manchanda’s book The Upstream Doctors and TED Talk have been downloaded and viewed over 2.3 million times. He is a founding faculty member at Meharry Medical College’s School of Global Health and teaches at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. He was the founding director of social medicine for a large community health center network in South Los Angeles, the first lead physician for homeless veterans at the Greater Los Angeles VA, and the inaugural chief medical officer for a self-insured employer with a large agricultural workforce. He is currently the CEO at HealthBegins, a mission-driven firm that helps Medicaid-serving clients to surpass health equity and social needs requirements and achieve long-term impact for people harmed by societal practices.

“We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Manchanda to our board, deepening our experience and insights into supporting and scaling social care alongside our proven clinical expertise,” said LANES CEO Ali Modaressi. “LANES is committed to supporting private and public initiatives across California while contributing to the realization of CalAIM.”
